It took Warren County a while to crack the door open Monday, but once the Lady Pioneers did, they kicked it down.
Warren County scored twice late in the first half, then overwhelmed Spring Hill with three quick goals after the break to roll to a 5-0 home victory.
Gisell Escamilla and Addi Steakley each finished with two goals and an assist while Emory MacDonald added another goal as the Lady Pioneers bounced back in a big way after settling for a 1-1 tie at Lebanon Thursday.
Warren County improved to 7-2-1 with the victory.
"This was a great win for our girls," said coach Todd Willmore. "They played with confidence, controlled the match from start to finish and continued to show the improvement we've been working toward."
The Lady Pioneers controlled much of the opening half but couldn't immediately turn their opportunities into goals. Warren County continued knocking on the door until finally breaking through late, then struck again with approximately two minutes remaining to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Whatever Willmore and the Lady Pioneers discussed during the break worked quickly.
Warren County came roaring out of halftime and scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second half. Another goal followed shortly afterward, turning a competitive 2-0 match into a 5-0 runaway.
"We made a few minor adjustments at the break, and the girls did an excellent job putting those changes into action and maintaining constant pressure on their defensive unit," said Willmore.
Spring Hill's keeper prevented the margin from growing even larger with several quality saves, but Warren County had already done more than enough damage.
Escamilla's two-goal performance pushed the freshman to three goals this season while Steakley, a senior captain, has five. MacDonald, also with five goals this year, continued her recent surge as well, scoring for the second straight match after delivering Warren County's late equalizer at Lebanon.
Warren County was just as effective at the other end of the field. The Lady Pioneers consistently shut down Spring Hill's transition opportunities and recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
The comfortable advantage also allowed Willmore to get valuable varsity minutes for several players as Warren County begins a busy stretch of three matches this week.
The Lady Pioneers are back on the road Tuesday night when they travel to DeKalb County for a 6 p.m. matchup. Warren County finishes up with a busy week Thursday at home against Columbia (7 p.m. start).
