WCHS soccer ready to make another title run

The pieces are in place for Warren County soccer to try to do something special again in 2027.

After winning the District 9-AAA championship this spring and putting together one of the strongest seasons the program has seen in nearly two decades, the Pioneers officially unveiled their roster for the upcoming 2027 campaign. And while Warren County graduated a large senior class from last year’s title squad, there is still plenty of talent returning - along with a new wave of young players arriving from the middle school ranks.

District Coach of the Year Alex Cordova will once again lead the program after guiding the Pioneers to a 12-5-1 finish and a breakthrough postseason run that included a district title victory over Shelbyville.

The returning senior class should give Warren County a strong foundation entering the season. First-team all-district selections Kaito Takahashi, Josue Macias and Yarel Ramirez are all back after playing major roles in the district championship run. Takahashi emerged as one of the district’s most dangerous scorers during the 2026 season, while Macias and Ramirez consistently helped drive the Pioneer attack.

The senior class also includes Giovany Martinez, Gavin Looper, Jackson Gunter, Ian Bruno and Carlos Tun.

Warren County’s junior class features another key returning weapon in Erik Hernandez, a second-team all-district selection who scored 12 goals last season. Guillermo Martinez also returns after earning second-team all-district honors, while Ethan Eller, Kenley Mitchell, Brayan Lopez and Burgess Galligan round out the upperclassmen group.

One of the biggest reasons for optimism may be the sophomore class.

Turner Griffith returns after earning District 9-AAA Freshman of the Year honors in goal during a breakout season. Joshua Fajardo also returns after receiving second-team all-district recognition as a freshman. The sophomore group also includes Dany Hernandez, Eastlan Green, Keaton Jones, Alex Ramirez, Samuel Wheatley, Rush Reynolds, Parker Jones, Cameron Vargas, Jose Juarez, Gerardo Gonzalez and Uriel Cortez.

The incoming freshman class arrives with plenty of momentum of its own after helping WCMS go 17-1, win district and region titles and advance all the way to the TMSAA state championship game. Adrian Cordova, Austin Breedlove, Gavin Chavez and Kredence Miller each earned all-district honors during the middle school run, while Liam Warden, Josue Templos and Diego Juarez also move up looking to compete for varsity minutes immediately.

Replacing seniors like Gabriel Cordova, Cristian Lopez, Ronny Orellana and Edwin Zarate will not be easy, but Warren County enters the new year with something it has not always had in the past - momentum, belief and a growing pipeline of talent ready to compete for championships.
