Boyd volleyball split its home matchups with Lancaster Christian Tuesday, with the middle school Lady Broncos continuing to show progress while the high school squad remained in search of its first victory.
The Boyd Middle School team picked up its third win of the season, sweeping Lancaster in straight sets to improve to 3-6.
For coach Kenny Chisam, the victory was another sign that the work his young team has put in throughout the season is starting to show on the court.
"Tonight may not have been the most competitive matchup, but sometimes you have to look beyond the scoreboard and focus on the progress being made," said Chisam. "I saw improvements tonight. I saw some things we have been working on starting to come together, and that is something we can build on."
Boyd has now won three of its last six matches after opening the season 0-3. The Lady Broncos broke through with their first victory against Franklin Classical before adding wins over 931 Academy and Lancaster.
"We still have plenty of work ahead of us, and we know tougher competition is coming, but tonight was another opportunity to learn, grow and gain confidence," said Chisam. "We will take the win, celebrate the improvements and get back to work."
The high school Lady Broncos weren't able to complete the Boyd sweep Tuesday. Lancaster defeated Boyd 25-10, 25-10 and 25-22, dropping the Lady Broncos to 0-10.
Boyd showed some fight late after struggling through the opening two sets, pushing Lancaster throughout the third before ultimately falling 25-22.
It was the second meeting between the teams this season. Lancaster also defeated Boyd in four sets in August.
Boyd is back at home Thursday for a doubleheader at home against Lighthouse Christian at 5 p.m.
