Oh sugar building up for lease

The cookie is not crumbling for the Oh Sugar building at 410 N. Chancery Street.

Property owner Jewell Hale says he’s going to leave the building in place and it will be available for lease.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise after Jewell has spent the past 11 months getting the vacant land next to Oh Sugar ready for commercial development.

What was once a steep slope is now a level pad after Jewell brought in some 1,800 truckloads of dirt.

There was speculation Jewell would demolish the Oh Sugar building once that business moved out, but Jewell says he’s going to leave it standing for now and it’s available to lease in July.

Oh Sugar is closing at 410 N. Chancery Street on Friday, June 12, and has the building leased till the end of June.

The vacant property next to it would be a great location for retail stores like Old Navy and Bealls, or a restaurant like Cheddar’s.
