Miss Bonnie loves to cook

For 32 years, Bonnie Deel was known for her biscuit and gravy at Country Club Market.

Nowadays, Miss Bonnie is known for her meatloaf and chicken ‘n dressing as the cook at Warehouse Discount Groceries, or WDG.

“I’ve been here for two years and I just love it,” said Bonnie. “I’m the chief cook, but I’m also the chief dishwasher.”

Her customers love her because she’s always bursting with friendliness.

“I’ve found that sometimes a kind word is worth more than anything,” she said.

A tasty breakfast and lunch are worth something too. Her lunch counter food draws a crowd, and she has a fierce following.

Other popular menu items include homemade Salisbury steak, and on Fridays there’s catfish.

“I just fry the catfish. I don’t catch it,” joked Bonnie.

She said one of the biggest compliments she received came several years ago when she was attending an out-of-town funeral. She overheard people next to her talking about the delicious biscuit and gravy at Country Club Market in Warren County.

When she leaned over and said, “I work at Country Club Market” they replied with excitement, “Then you must be Miss Bonnie!”

With so much cooking on the job, Bonnie says she’s lucky to have a husband who helps her in the kitchen at home. She and Greg have been married 40 years.

“You know he’s a good man to put up with me,” said Bonnie.
