A sincere ‘thank you’ for Judkins

Warren County Board of Education recognized Larry Judkins for his 16 years of service. Thursday was his final meeting.
“Larry Judkins’ service spans two different periods,” said Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows. “He was first elected in 1998 and served through 2010, and then, 12 years later, in 2022 he returned to the board and served another four years. When you consider that length of service, Mr. Judkins has had a unique opportunity to see Warren County Schools through different seasons and he served alongside both elected and appointed superintendents, including Pedro Paz and Jerry Hale and he caught the worst one at the end.”
Dr. Swallows smiled and paused, allowing the comment about himself to sink in. The moment brought laughter from those in attendance.
“He has seen changes in leadership. He has seen changes in our schools and significant changes in public education itself. Throughout those years, his fellow board members have also trusted him with leadership. Mr. Judkins has served as chairman of the Warren County Board of Education on two separate occasions. His commitment to the responsibility of being a board member is also reflected in his achievement of a level five boardsmanship award through the Tennessee School Boards Association. This is the highest level of TSBA’s boardsmanship award program and carries the designation of master board member. Reaching that level requires a significant commitment to training, professional growth, and continued learning through the regular responsibilities of serving on the local board.
“That commitment to public service extends beyond public education as well. Mr. Judkins is retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, making service to the public an important part of his professional life and his time on the board.
“Mr. Judkins, 16 years of service represents a substantial investment in Warren County Schools and this community. We want to thank you for your leadership, your commitment to this board and the many years of service you’ve given in Warren County. We appreciate you and wish you the very best.”
Judkins was presented with an award in recognition of his dedicated service and leadership.
“I appreciate all the employees and all the past board members that I’ve served with over the years,” said Judkins. “I’ve told Dr. Swallows several times, I’m really proud of this Learning Center here. We always met in that small room, and everybody was around the back, and you had to turn around to look at them. But, anyway, it has been a pleasure for me to serve. It has been rewarding. Just keep up the good work. Thank you all.”
