Young Lady Broncos pick up first victory

After Tuesday night’s loss dropped Boyd to 0-3, coach Kenny Chisam was at a loss for words and hoping his middle school team could keep fighting for a victory. Two nights later, the whole team let its play do the talking on the road.

The Lady Broncos were able to grind to a win over TSIAA for Franklin Classical, winning 25-11, 18-25 and 15-10.

“It was a night to be proud of the Boyd Middle School volleyball team,” said Chisam. “While there is still a long road ahead, the team continues to show improvement with every practice and every game.

“Most importantly, the girls finally looked like they were having fun on the court, and that was something I as a coach was proud to see.”

The first match belonged to Boyd, as Kashlyn Garrett caught fire from the service line, serving 12 straight points to help lead the team. Zulina Reed then finished the match with three consecutive serves to help secure the win.

Boyd fell short in the second set despite Maggie Panter contributing five total serves in the rotation. But rather than letting the loss get the team down, the girls stayed determined and continued to battle.

In the deciding third match, Boyd came out ready to finish the job. Anna Long stepped to the service line late in the match and delivered the game-winning ace to seal the victory.

“The win is a great reward for a team that has continued to work hard through the ups and downs of the season. There is still plenty to improve on, but the girls are beginning to put the pieces together,” said Chisam. “Now, it is back to work Friday at practice. The goal remains simple: keep working, keep improving and keep getting better together.”
