Lady Pioneers Battle Through Hard-Fought Match

The energy inside the gym was impossible to miss Thursday night as Warren County Middle School took the court against Avery Trace Middle School in a loud and highly competitive match.

From the opening serve, both teams battled for every point, with the crowd adding to the intensity of the match. The rallies grew longer as the score remained close. Momentum constantly shifted from one side of the net to the other, making this match an exciting atmosphere. The Lady Pioneers came out on top to add another victory for the week.

The first set was very competitive, scoring going back and forth but Warren County managed to pull the win 27-25. Avery Trace made sure they were focused in the first set but once they got on top of the Lady Pioneers 24-23, Coach Bethany Mesaros called a timeout and said to the team, “I kept telling them that they were the ones in control of the whole game and take a deep breath.”

As this was their 3rd game for the week, the team was ready to compete to keep their winning streak alive. Mesaros said “This past practice we talked about having a humble attitude and not bringing your pride into the game so we can let go of those mistakes quickly to keep pushing and pull through to the end.” For the Lady Pioneers, the attitudes were in the right place to keep pushing through a competitive match.

The second set was just as competitive as the first, but the Lady Pioneers managed to keep the intensity alive to pull out a victory 25-21. The teams traded points back and forth early, reaching a 3-3 tie. After that, the Lady Pioneers went on good rallies to extend the lead. As they were up 21-13, Avery Trace made a run to get within 4 points to keep it a close battle. The Lady Pioneers responded well as they were up 22-18.

Avery Trace managed to close the gap and go on another run to get within 2 points but the Lady Pioneers put a stop to the run to pull out a big win. Going into a 4th game tomorrow, Mesaros says “I want the girls to come with the same amount of intensity that they started with at the beginning of the week and push all the way to the end.”

The Lady Pioneers had multiple players step up tonight. Lyvia Wilson was a very strong contributor to tonight’s win with 14 digs. Fallon Youngblood also was a big contributor with 12 assists. Ellie Dixon and Khloe Howell were key players at the net with their kills. Dixon had 8 and Howell had 7.

The Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers will have one more game to compete in this week. They will play Coffee County at WCMS Friday night, August 21st. The first serve is up at 5:30 p.m.
