WCMS defends home court
Story By Rudy DeArmond, reporter on the Warren County Way
The Lady Pioneers found a way to come out on top Thursday night, earning a hard-fought victory over the White County Warriorettes in a competitive district matchup. With momentum shifts throughout the match, the Lady Pioneers stayed composed in key moments and delivered the points when it mattered most to claim the victory.
Coming off a competitive loss on Tuesday, the Lady Pioneers entered the matchup looking to respond on their home court. From the opening serve, Warren County showed energy and intensity that controlled the pace of play. The Lady Pioneers made plays in the right moments to leave the court with a 25-7, 25-14 victory. Despite the final score, the Warriorettes continued to battle throughout the match, forcing the Lady Pioneers to stay focused.
"They came in and they were ready to go," Coach Mesaros said of her team's effort Thursday night.
With this being the third game this week, Coach Mesaros said, "They're tired, but they're pushing through as I need them to. Our varsity is clicking at paces that I like them to, and so I'm very encouraged for the rest of the season."
The team showed grit and determination to get back in the win column after a competitive loss a few nights ago, showing its ability to bounce back.
Fallon Youngblood was a key contributor to the Lady Pioneers' success Thursday night. She ended the night with five aces, most of which came in the first set, along with five assists. Khloe Howell also made her presence felt at the net, recording four blocks in the victory.
As the Lady Pioneers hit the road for the first time this season Friday, Coach Mesaros said the expectation is the same.
"To come in with the same amount of intensity that we come in with every home game. I will tell them to listen to music, different things to get ready, and just be focused all the time."
The Lady Pioneers will look to carry the confidence and momentum from Thursday night's victory as they travel to Coffee County Friday. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
