White County didn't give Warren County much time to settle into Thursday night's border battle.
Ten seconds was all it took.
Cole Sims took the Warriors' first offensive snap 45 yards for a touchdown and White County never looked back, scoring 27 points in the opening quarter and building a 41-point halftime advantage on its way to a 48-7 Homecoming victory in Sparta.
The loss dropped Warren County to 3-4 and extended White County's perfect start to 7-0. It was also the second straight difficult night for the Pioneers, who entered Thursday hoping to bounce back from a 42-7 loss to Stone Memorial.
Instead, White County showed quickly why it has yet to lose.
Sims found a huge hole on the Warriors' first play, made a pair of cuts and raced untouched for the opening score. Warren County did get a small victory moments later when it blocked the extra point, but there wasn't much slowing down the Warriors from there.
White County scored again less than three minutes later when bruising senior Lex Winfree, a former standout for the WCMS Pioneers, entered the backfield and powered in from 10 yards out. Then things started to snowball.
AJ Whitman lost the ball on a run and Bryson Hogg scooped it up and raced 38 yards for a touchdown. Just 19 seconds later, Hogg was in the end zone again, this time hauling in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tucker Pinion after Hogg’s INT got the ball back for Sparta.
In a span of just over four minutes, Warren County went from trailing 6-0 to staring at a 27-0 deficit.
The Pioneers were never able to recover.
White County continued to control the line of scrimmage and kept Warren County's normally potent rushing attack bottled up. The Pioneers, who had leaned heavily on Whitman's legs throughout their three-game winning streak, managed only 33 rushing yards as a team Thursday.
Whitman, who entered the night with 1,003 rushing yards, was limited to 17 yards on nine carries. Brant Damon added 14 yards on four attempts and Jacob See finished with eight yards on two carries.
The Warriors added two more touchdowns in the final 24 seconds before halftime. Azlan Mathurin scored on a 7-yard run before Pinion broke loose for a 28-yard touchdown with seven seconds remaining, sending White County into the locker room ahead 41-0.
White County's depth was evident throughout the night. Sims needed only seven carries to finish with 92 yards, while Pinion rushed for 48, Tate Pinion added 46, Mathurin had 40, Jojo Dowell finished with 22 and Winfree added 20. The Warriors piled up 284 rushing yards while averaging 7.7 yards per attempt.
The lead grew to 48-0 in the third quarter when Pinion connected with Eli Sparkman for a 6-yard touchdown.
Warren County finally broke through on the final play of the third quarter.
Whitman found Carter Lee on a screen to the visitors sidelines and the senior raced in for a 37-yard touchdown to get the Pioneers on the board. Gavin Looper added the PAT for what proved to be the final points of the night.
Lee was Warren County's leading receiver with three catches for 48 yards. Wesley Romzek added a 21-yard reception on the TD drive to convert a third-and-long, while Whitman finished 7-of-15 for 85 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
White County finished with a 350-118 advantage in total offense.
Warren County will now take a much needed break before turning to action Friday, Oct. 16 against Cannon County on homecoming.
