Stars and Stripes 5K Results

If there was one common talking point from the 45th annual Stars and Stripes 5K, it wasn't just the close finish - it was the weather.

After days of forecasts calling for oppressive heat, runners instead were greeted by cooler temperatures, cloud cover and lower humidity that produced one of the fastest mornings the race has seen in years.

"It may have been the best weather we've gotten," said Ray Bishop, now a six-time champion.

The results backed him up.

Bishop needed an 18:09 - shaving almost 20 seconds off his winning time last year - just to hold off George Myers by one second, while four runners broke the 20-minute barrier. Blane Jones, Bishop's younger brother, ran third in 19:02 and former champion Matthew Bratcher (19:16) was next in fourth. Another former champion, Jason McVey, rounded out the top five on the guys side.

Mary Myers put on a show once again on the girls side, flying to a 20:17 finish to take the women’s title for the second straight year. Her sister Catherine was second at 21:59 and finished inside the top 10 of overall finishers.

In all, 229 runners crossed the finish line, making another strong turnout for one of Warren County's longest-running Fourth of July traditions. Here is the full list of finishers of the 5K.
