Pioneer of the Week: Oct. 12-17

Each weekend, The Warren County Way will be selecting a Pioneer of the Week. That honor is sponsored by R3 Logistics. Be on the lookout for the Pioneers of the Week throughout the 2026-27 school year.

Arianna Aguilar, WCMS Basketball

Arianna Aguilar is making an early impression on the hardwood for the Warren County Middle School sixth-grade Lady Pioneers. Her speed, aggressiveness and willingness to attack the basket have helped WCMS get off to a strong start under new coach Leanne Morrison.

Aguilar poured in a team-high 13 points last Tuesday night as the Lady Pioneers rolled past Coffee County 35-4 in their home opener, earning her The Warren County Way's R3 Logistics Pioneer of the Week honor.

The sixth-grade standout did much of her damage in the second half, turning Coffee County turnovers into easy scoring opportunities. Aguilar was a blur in transition, racing past defenders for layups and showing the confidence to attack the basket even when contact was waiting.

For Morrison, Aguilar's growth goes well beyond what shows up in the scoring column.

“She wants to get better every day and is eager to learn new things,” said Morrison. “She never quits and has really stepped up her game. She attacks the goal and is finishing with contact. Her attitude and body language are always positive.”

That combination of effort and improvement has been a welcome sight for Morrison, who is in her first season leading the WCMS sixth-grade girls while also coaching the Bobby Ray boys.

Aguilar's performance was part of a balanced offensive effort against Coffee County. Point guard Karah Fish added 10 points and helped Warren County establish a 15-2 halftime lead, while Priscilla Moore contributed six points and provided a strong presence on the boards. Anna Kate Bryant chipped in four points and Daelyn Roland scored two.

The victory followed a season-opening road win over Cannon County before fall break. The Lady Pioneers added another victory over Cannon County on Saturday before suffering their first loss of the season against Upperman, putting WCMS at 3-1 heading into this week's action.

“They’re so competitive and they love winning,” said Morrison. “We’re going to continue to build their skills and working on getting better for the future, but their desire for the game is already there and that’s what makes me so happy.”

Aguilar is already showing how that desire can translate into production. With her ability to create offense in transition, finish through contact and maintain a positive attitude, she's giving the Lady Pioneers another weapon as they begin their middle school basketball journey.

Warren County will get another look at Coffee County Tuesday night, this time on the road in a 6 p.m. rematch. The Lady Pioneers will then travel to White County Thursday before returning home Saturday to face Irving College.
