Elementary Girls potW - Week 2
The elementary basketball season continues to bring out the best in Warren County's young athletes, with several players stepping up as teams battle through the early portion of the 2026-27 season.
The Warren County Way is recognizing nine girls as Players of the Week for performances during games played Sept. 28, Oct. 13 and Oct. 15. The recognition covers three nights of county league action, while Boyd also enjoyed success in games against out-of-county competition during that stretch.
The selections highlight players who have made an impact for their teams, whether through big scoring performances, timely baskets or contributions that helped their schools compete.
Special thanks goes out to all of our sponsors for the elementary players of the week. Those businesses are: W Services Land Management And Excavation, Cole Taylor’s Lawn Care, Prince HVAC, Moore Automotive and Family Care Clinic. Not only are our sponsors featured on this post and on our social media posts, they are also featured on our Games of the Week that feature the schools they sponsor.

Bobby Ray – Devyn Gennings
Gennings earns the recognition for Bobby Ray for her contributions to the Lady Stars during the latest stretch of league play. A trusted rebounder, rugged defender and evolving offense player, Gennings has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year on coach Phyllis Boren’s squad. She scored two points against Irving College on Oct. 15 as Bobby Ray continues to work to build momentum against county competition.
Boyd – Oly Cathcart
While Boyd was on fall break last week, there’s rarely a time when the Lady Broncos are not working to get better. The week prior to their own fall break, while the rest of the league was on its fall break, Boyd was surging on the court and Cathcart was right in the middle of the action.
A blossoming guard at Boyd, Cathcart helped the Lady Broncos pick up a convincing 25-6 victory over Centertown on Sept. 28, scoring five points in the win. She followed it up with impressive performances when Boyd took on the Upper Cumberland Rams and Cannon South in non-league matchups.
Centertown – Lynlee Taylor
Taylor delivered one of the strongest individual scoring performances of the period, pouring in 14 points as Centertown rolled past West 30-10 on Oct. 13. Taylor has been on an absolute scoring tear for the Lady Warriors, who should be right in the mix for an elementary championship this year thanks to their lead guard and a host of defenders ready to fly around for Centertown.
Dibrell – Piper Hall
Hall continues to earn playing time for the Lady Wildcats for all she can do to impact the game for the purple and gold. One of the league’s feared shot blockers in the paint, Hall is growing as an enforcer in the middle of the defense while also working as a safety valve on offense. She scored two points a battle against Eastside for Dibrell, which is still looking to break through this season.
Eastside – Mia Rodriguez
Rodriguez put together an impressive stretch for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 12 points against West on Sept. 28 before adding seven in a 19-7 victory over Dibrell on Oct. 13. Her 19 combined points has helped Eastside move to the middle of the pack in the standings and continue an unward trend that started the moment the speedy point guard started handling the offense for the Lady Bulldogs.
Hickory Creek – Daisy George
One of the lone returning contributors from Hickory Creek’s unbeaten run to a championship last year, George had grown into a leader for the Lady Hawks. She led Hickory Creek with 11 points in a 23-4 victory over Dibrell last week and spearheads an aggressive defensive the team uses to take control of games.
And when the team needs a bucket, they go to their veteran, who is hoping to power Hickory Creek to back-to-back titles this winter.
Irving College – Willow Hertwig
Irving College is among the county's unbeaten teams, thanks in large part to the hard work Hertwig puts in nightly during the Lady Tigers’ strong start. Hertwig can morph into anything coach Jasmine Evans asks of her most nights: dominant defender, a cleaner of the glass, a ball handler or a scorer.
Hertwig led the Lady Tigers with six points in their 15-4 victory over Bobby Ray last week and is hoping to do more this week as Irving College hopes to keep its unbeaten run going in battles against West and Dibrell.
Morrison – Tinleigh George
George came through when Morrison needed her most, scoring eight of the Lady Eagles' 10 points in a narrow 10-9 victory over West when both teams were looking for their first victories of the season. George’s big scoring, along with ball pressure and ability to get the Lady Eagles settled on offense, proved crucial as Morrison secured a nailbiting win on the road.
West – Kayleigh Redmon
Redmon earns the recognition for the Lady Wizards after contributing two points in West's matchup with Centertown last week. West continues to battle through a difficult early schedule, with Redmon among the young players gaining valuable experience in county competition.
