The Warren County High School golf teams wrapped up their regional competition with the Lady Pioneers recording their highest finish among the teams within their district, while the Pioneers gained valuable experience against tough competitors.
The Lady Pioneers shot an overall team score of 185, finishing fourth in the regional tournament. The cut off to get into the state tournament was a 75 as an individual. Gabbi Molloy finished with an 86, while Lucy Mulligan shot a 99.
In order for the boys to get into the state tournament, they needed to shoot a 69 as an individual. Noel Davis ended the day with a 79, while Ryder Hobbs shot a 110.
Despite the results, Warren County head coach JW Holt said the regional tournament provided an important opportunity for the team to compete against strong competition.
“As for overall scores in our region, this has to be the toughest region that we have competed in,” said Holt. “We just have to build off the experience that we gained by playing in this region.”
The Pioneers will face a significant change heading into next season with the departure of Davis, who has been Warren County’s top golfer for several seasons.
“Noel was a senior that we will definitely miss,” said Holt. “He has played our number one position for the last several seasons. We will need our young players to step up next season to fill that void.”
The Lady Pioneers will have a strong team returning next season, giving the juniors another opportunity to build past the regional tournament.
“I believe our girls will only continue to get better. They are a group that will continue to work in the offseason and they return as juniors next year,” said Holt.
The Lady Pioneers finished as district runners-up this season and will enter the offseason with that result serving as motivation to show improvement.
With a strong returning group for the Lady Pioneers and some players to step up for the Pioneers, Warren County will use its regional experience as a building block heading into the offseason and next season.
