Football moved to Thursday

The border battle between White County and Warren County has been moved to Thursday night.

The border battle continues - and this time it’s coming a day earlier.

According to multiple sources at each school, Warren County and White County have decided to try to avoid the incoming rain this weekend, like many schools across the state, and bump their matchup up to Thursday night in Sparta. Kickoff could be pushed back to 7:30 p.m. to accommodate homecoming for White County.

The Pioneers (3-3) will make the short trip looking to bounce back from last week's loss to Stone Memorial and snap a lengthy skid against their border rivals. Warren County last defeated White County in 2018, beating the Warriors 20-13.

The teams didn't play during the 2019-20 cycle and their scheduled 2021 matchup was canceled due to COVID. When the rivalry returned in 2022, Warren County nearly broke through. Malaki Dowell's two-point conversion run in the final minute proved to be the difference as White County escaped with a 22-21 victory.

The last three meetings haven't provided nearly as much drama. White County won 35-6 in 2023 before shutting out the Pioneers in back-to-back seasons, winning 41-0 in 2024 and 34-0 last fall.

Warren County will have its work cut out trying to end that streak Thursday. White County enters the border battle 6-0 and will be looking to stay perfect on Homecoming night, while the Pioneers will be trying to get back in the win column after having their three-game winning streak snapped last week.

More on the matchup will follow on the Warren County Way tomorrow morning.
