Pioneers Fall to Sparta

The Warren County Pioneers fell to Sparta 51-32, closing out their season after battling the Warriors throughout the last game of the season.

Sparta was able to get off to a strong start, building a 16-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers worked hard to dig themselves out of a hole in the second quarter, trailing 28-16 at halftime.

The Warriors were able to maintain their advantage in the third quarter, extending their lead 40-22. Warren County continued to compete in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points but it just was not enough to secure the victory. The Warren County Pioneers closed out their season with a 51-32 loss to Sparta, finishing the year after a hard-fought battle against the Warriors.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers showed growth throughout the season, giving the team something to build on moving forward to the offseason.

After the game, coach Ryan Smith reflected positively on the team’s progress despite having a short season.

“I wish the season was longer, so we had more of an opportunity to grow. With that being said, the guys took that opportunity and had some real growth throughout the season,” Smith said.

The Pioneers were led offensively by Branch Conley with 12 points, while Drew Templeton added 9 points.

Although the Pioneers finished their season with a loss, the progress they made throughout the year provides a good foundation to build on heading into the offseason.
