WCMS getting a greenhouse
Warren County Middle School students are sure to dig this news. They’re getting a greenhouse for the upcoming school year!
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at WCMS Monday afternoon to celebrate the occasion. School system and Rotary Club members were in attendance.
The Rotary Club is paying the cost to install the greenhouse to give students a chance to gain general gardening knowledge.
The goal is to have the greenhouse complete by Aug. 1. The school year starts Wednesday, Aug. 5.
WCMS teacher Stephanie Hobbs will oversee this hands-on learning opportunity.
The greenhouse will be a 30x40-foot structure. The estimated cost is around $12,000.
Rotary Club member Don Alexander said having students learn about a greenhouse is appropriate for our community.
“It’s an investment in our future,” said Alexander. “Our county is famous as the Nursery Capital of the World and home to over 300 nurseries, with additional nurseries in adjacent counties.”
Alexander noted a greenhouse gives students early exposure to skills that are needed for a career in horticulture or agriculture.
The greenhouse at WCMS will mirror the design of a greenhouse at Eastside School. Eastside’s greenhouse was also provided by the Rotary Club and launched in March 2025.
