Water customer transfer agreement accepted

Fifty-six Warren County Utility District customers are one vote away from being consumers of McMinnville Water and Wastewater Department.

The McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved the transfer during its session on Tuesday, June 23. Being an ordinance, the measure requires one more passing read.

“This is from the discussion we had a few weeks ago,” said the city’s Water and Wastewater Department Director Ricky Morton. “Warren County Utility has a water line that’s jeopardized on the bridge there at Charles Creek, below Faulkner’s Factory.”

Alderman Keri Morton asked, “That was caused by an accident?”

“They had an accident after the fact,” said Morton. “The bridge has settled and has pulled the water line away and out of the bell housing. So, they knew, if it ever blew out, they couldn’t serve that side of town. We can serve it.”

The city would pay $1,000 per customer, as well as an additional $13,440 for the meters.

Voting in favor were Vice Mayor Steve Harvey and Aldermen Sally Brock, Deitra Dunlap, Rachel Kirby, Kara Youngblood and Morton. Mayor Ryle Chastain was absent.
