Cast your vote early

We are one week into the two-week Early Voting period.

“It’s going well,” said Warren County Administrator of Elections Susie Davenport. “We have had just over 2,700 voting so far.”

While hopefuls line the streets waving and smiling at passing motorists, campaigning is prohibited in close proximity to polling places. In Tennessee, the magic number is 100 feet. Candidates are not allowed within a 100-foot buffer zone around voting locations. Additionally, items, such as T-shirts, buttons or caps, that promote a candidate or issue on the ballot are not allowed in the buffer zone – this applies to everyone.

While poll workers have had issues in the past with voters wearing items that promote a candidate, Davenport says so far, so good this year.

“Honestly, not any real issues with campaign apparel,” she stated. “I think people have learned what they can and cannot wear while voting.”

Early Voting ends Saturday, Aug. 1, at 12 noon.
