Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center placed as many animals as were taken in during the month of September.
According to the information provided by Animal Control Supervisor Jeff Tubb, 20 cats and 15 dogs were adopted in September. During that month, the facility took in 23 cats and 12 dogs, a combined 35. On Sept. 30, the shelter census was 7 cats and 25 dogs.
2026 numbers:
September had the largest number of cats adopted in one month during 2026 (20), as well as the largest number of intakes (23). For dogs, March had the largest number of adopts (20), while the largest number of intakes was in February (38).
Animal control has 14 dogs who have been at the facility for more than 100 days. Three of those, two males and one female, have been medically altered. With the county permanently removing adoption fees, those are ready for their forever homes.
As for the new facility, Tubb provided Warren County Way with a walk-through inspection this week.
“They installed the electrical box and as soon as the building is wired and inspected, TCAT students can begin finishing the interior,” he stated.
Tubb agreed that the process has been slow but stated that the end result of the project will be worth it, as well as at a considerable cost saving for taxpayers.
“We’re getting all the unused equipment from the old health department. Anything that’s going to be replaced we can have, such as tables, cabinets, desks, soap dispensers, and things like that. That’s going to be another savings for taxpayers.”
One item the new facility will not have, but Tubb believes it should include is a shower. He has discussed the addition with County Executive Terry Bell.
“I think a shower would be a good idea. I’ve discussed it with Terry. Sometimes things just happen. Plus, the ladies who come over here from the jail and work all day can take a shower before they return to the jail.”
The timeframe of completion is still unknown.
