Graceland embraces the spirit of Halloween

Graceland Portable Buildings of Morrison is asking for community support to offer a family-friendly and safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating on Halloween.

“We’re turning the Graceland Portable Buildings of Morrison lot into a Halloween Village and inviting local businesses, churches, organizations, families and individuals to help create a free, family-friendly Halloween experience for our community,” says Rebekah Acre.

Participants can hand out candy, host a simple game or activity, offer a craft, create a character or meet-and-greet, create a photo opportunity, decorate your space, share information about your business or organization, create a larger themed attraction or haunted house.

“We’ve got about half our buildings booked by local organizations and businesses,” said Jeff Acre. “We have 12 or 14 booked, and we’d like 10 to 15 more. People can decorate their building, promote their small business and give out candy to the little ones as they are wandering around.”

Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Decorating is encouraged but not required.

Event highlights include Graceland Graveyard, giant 12-foot skeletons, 9-foot predator, 11-foot mummy, more skeletons than you can count, kids pumpkin contest, trick-or-treating, games and activities, food truck, family photo opportunities, and animatronics, gargoyles, angels, creatures, and more.

“We’ve done a graveyard scene and other things for 15 to 16 years,” said Jeff. “It was at the house, so only a few people ever saw it. We took over this spot the first of the year. It hit me that we could decorate here and do a trunk-or-treat type event and a whole bunch of people would see it.”

The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3-6 p.m. Graceland of Morrison is located at 131 C. Swift Lane in Morrison (across from Medley’s Diner and behind Shell/Subway).
