WCMS wins on the road

The Lady Pioneers are starting to make comebacks a habit.

Two nights after rallying from four points down late in the second set to stun Stone Memorial, Warren County had to dig out of another hole Thursday at Avery Trace. WCMS erased a six-point deficit in the second set to finish off a 25-20, 25-19 sweep and improve to 5-2 this season.

Warren County got contributions from all over the floor to finish another busy week with a victory.

Ellie Dixon continued to establish herself as a force at the net, finishing with six kills, evenly splitting them with three in each set. Khloe Howell added three kills, while Fallon Youngblood and Maebry Yates had two apiece. Lillyanna Reagan and Emma Boon each added one.

The Lady Pioneers were particularly dangerous from the service line. Boon led the way with three aces, while Howell, Youngblood and Lyvia Wilson each had two as Warren County continually put pressure on Avery Trace.

Boon and Youngblood also shared the setting duties, finishing with five assists apiece.

Wilson continued to anchor the back row with six digs. Youngblood added two digs and Dixon had one, giving Warren County enough chances to transition from defense into an attack that proved too much for Avery Trace.

The victory completed a 2-1 week for the Lady Pioneers, who have already been tested plenty through the first two weeks of the season.

Warren County opened the week with a straight-set loss on the road against Upperman, the defending TMSAA Class 2A state runner-up. The Lady Pioneers bounced back Tuesday with a dramatic three-set victory over Stone Memorial, rallying from an 18-22 deficit to win the second set before controlling the third.

Thursday brought another deficit and another response.

Instead of allowing Avery Trace to force a deciding set, Warren County erased the six-point hole and closed out the match in two to improve to 5-2 overall this season.

Warren County will get a chance to rest over the weekend before returning to action Monday at home against Cumberland County.
