WCMS Soccer Defeats White County
Warren County Middle School got off to a fast start and never looked back, earning a 4-1 victory over White County Middle School. The Lady Pioneers found the back of the net early in the game to build momentum and take control of the match.
Warren County came out with their foot on the gas pedal, putting pressure on White County from the opening whistle. The Lady Pioneers struck first with about 23 minutes remaining in the first half before finding the back of the net again less than two minutes later to extend their lead to 2-0. The quick offense burst gave the Lady Pioneers an early advantage and set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Coach Sally Willmore said “The team knew with this being a district match, we obviously had to play with a lot more effort than what was given the other night against Coffee.” The Lady Pioneers responded to that challenge by bringing the momentum and intensity from start to finish.
With the early lead, the Lady Pioneers continued to push forward and create scoring opportunities. The Lady Pioneers moved the ball well and continued to find openings in the White County defense, eventually adding to their lead. The continued pressure eventually helped Warren County add to its lead. The Lady Pioneers offense finished the night with four goals, while the defense held strong and limited White County to just one goal.
Willmore said “ We were able to connect passes and keep possession most of the game, which we are super proud of.” The Lady Pioneers continued to move the ball well, controlling possession and limiting White County to very few opportunities.
White County continued to battle in the second half and eventually kicked one into the back of the net at the beginning of the second half. The goal gave Warriorettes an opportunity to cut into the lead, but the Lady Pioneers responded by regaining momentum and continuing to apply pressure on the offensive side of the field.
“We are super proud of AnnaLee Simpson for stepping in and contributing a ton tonight!” Willmore said.
LB Guthrie led the Lady Pioneers with 2 goals, while Finn MacDonald and Abigail Laxson each added a goal in the victory. The JV squad also got a victory tonight 2-0. Ansley Pitts and Devin Watson each had a goal.
As the game clock continued to wind down, Warren County maintained its advantage and kept White County from making a late push. The Lady Pioneers continued to be aggressive on both sides of the field, protecting their lead until the horn sounded as the game ended.
The Lady Pioneers closed out the match with a victory, maintaining its advantage through the final whistle. Their early offensive success proved to be the difference as they secured the win over White County Middle.
The Lady Pioneers next game will be August 31st at Stone Memorial. Kickoff with be at 6:00 p.m.
