The WCMS Lady Pioneers didn't let a tough road loss linger long.
Warren County bounced back in dominant fashion Friday night, blasting DeKalb County 8-0 at home just two days after suffering a 1-0 loss at Prescott South.
Finn MacDonald led the offensive explosion with a hat trick, scoring three times as the Lady Pioneers improved to 8-3 overall. LB Guthrie and Jensi Griffith each found the back of the net twice while Shanti Hernandez added a goal.
The eight-goal outburst was a quick response after Warren County had been shut out Wednesday, though coach Sally Willmore didn't think the final score at Prescott told the story of how her team played.
"Lost 1-0 but played our best game," said Willmore. "Everyone definitely played until the final seconds. We had plenty of shots on goal but couldn’t seem to get it in the back of the net."
Warren County's inability to finish chances was the difference against Prescott, but Willmore came away encouraged enough by the performance to already be thinking about a potential rematch.
"I told the girls hopefully we will see them again when it really matters in the championship and be able to stick out a win," said Willmore.
There were no such scoring issues Friday.
Warren County poured in eight goals against DeKalb while posting its fourth shutout victory of the season. The Lady Pioneers have now scored 45 goals through 11 matches, with all three losses coming by either one or two goals.
The WCMS JV squad also finished the week unbeaten. Warren County battled Prescott South to a 2-2 tie Wednesday, getting goals from Harper Rivas and Vivi Douglas.
The JV Lady Pioneers followed with a shutout Friday, beating DeKalb County 2-0 behind goals from Claudia Walker and Iva Newman.
