Lady Pioneer softball looking to reload
Coming off a 17-12 season and another third-place finish in District 6-4A, Warren County will hold softball tryouts for the 2026-27 season on May 22 from 3-5 p.m. at the WCHS softball field.
The Lady Pioneers will enter next season replacing a senior class that helped lay the foundation for one of the program’s more successful recent runs. Ceilee Gudat, Lola Wells and Kyaira Sharpe all leave behind major production after helping Warren County win 17 games and remain competitive in one of the toughest districts in the area.
Gudat, bound for Vol State, closed her career as an all-district selection, while Wells became the first Division I softball signee in program history when she committed to Tennessee Tech. Sharpe, a Columbia State signee, also played a key role as a consistent spark in the lineup.
Even with those departures, Warren County returns plenty of firepower.
Sophomore Kaydence Wiser is back after an all-district season where she led the Lady Pioneers with a .409 batting average and continued to be one of the best defensive catchers in the area. Ruby Denning is also set to return after blasting 10 home runs this spring, finishing just shy of the school’s single-season record while putting herself in position to chase the program’s career home run mark next year.
The Lady Pioneers also saw Nevaeh Duggin emerge late in the season with major postseason innings in the circle, providing a glimpse into what the pitching staff could look like moving forward.
Coach Gooby Martin believes the experience gained during the final stretch of the season could pay off quickly.
“We are excited for the 2027 season,” Martin said. “We will miss our seniors from this past season but now it’s time for some other talented girls to make a name for themselves. We have a lot of returning players who earned valuable playing time this past season. I think we improved tremendously that last month of the season. We want to build off that momentum and keep moving in the right direction.”
