Pioneer of the Week: Aug. 3-8
Each Sunday, The Warren County Way will be selecting a Pioneer of the Week. That honor is sponsored by R3 Logistics. Be on the lookout for the Pioneers of the Week throughout the 2026-27 school year.
Lyvia Wilson, WCMS Volleyball
If the Warren County Middle School volleyball team established an identity during its 3-1 opening week, it was simple: Don't let the ball hit the floor.
Nobody embodied that mentality more than Lyvia Wilson.
The Lady Pioneer libero seemed to be everywhere during Warren County's first four matches, anchoring a back row that helped WCMS earn victories over Westwood, White County and Coffee County while battling defending TMSAA Class 2A state runner-up Upperman to the wire.
Wilson's impact was especially evident against Upperman. Facing the only team to defeat WCMS during opening week, Wilson routinely flew across the court to extend rallies, making diving saves and keeping the Lady Pioneers alive against the Lady Jackets' powerful attack. Warren County held leads in both sets before ultimately falling 25-22, 25-18.
Coach Bethany Mesaros didn't hesitate when asked what Wilson brings to the lineup.
"She is one of our strongest passers on the team and she is definitely an anchor in the back row," said Mesaros. "She makes sure that balls are up and she's moving her feet and making sure that nothing hits the ground."
Wilson wasn't limited to defense. Her work from the service line helped spark Warren County's comeback from an eight-point deficit against Westwood, then helped the Lady Pioneers build a second-set lead against Upperman.
In a week where Ellie Dixon's powerful swings and Warren County's aggressive attack provided plenty of highlights, Wilson supplied the grit behind them.
Her countless saves helped Warren County finish the week 3-1 and earn her the very first Pioneer of the Week honor from The Warren County Way.
