Lady Pioneers Fall In Rematch Against East

Willow Kennerly tussles for position with Tullahoma East during Tuesday’s home game.

The Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneers fell to Tullahoma East for the second time in a row, 40-19.

The Lady Pioneers came out hot at the start of the game scoring a quick bucket off the jump ball. East came down to score a quick bucket to tie the game at 2 but Warren County managed to battle to end the first quarter tied at 7 points.

“We came out ready to play,” Tyra Rubio said. “We had great defense in the first quarter.”

After a competitive opening quarter, Tullahoma East began to find its rhythm offensively in the second quarter. The Lady Pioneers struggled to match that production, allowing East to build a double-digit advantage heading into halftime

“We had a hard time responding when East came out with more power in the second quarter,” said Rubio.

At the half, the Lady Pioneers found themselves in a hole down 11 points, 20-9. Warren County tried to battle back forcing a few turnovers and getting a quick bucket but the momentum stayed with Tullahoma East.

The Lady Pioneers struggled to score the last two quarters to pull themselves back in the game falling too far behind. The final score was 40-19.

Ava Carden led the Lady Pioneers with 6 points. While Nia Rich, Hailey Geesling, and Willow Kennerly all added 4 points.

Rubia said “I do feel like our defense improved from Thursday to tonight and we are making strides in the right direction. We just have to put it all together.”

The Lady Pioneers will look forward to Friday, November 6 as they travel to Cannon County. The tip off for varsity will be at 6 p.m.
