The Boyd Christian Lady Broncos Middle School volleyball team had its season opener with a challenging matchup against Franklin Road Academy. The Lady Broncos fell in straight sets, 5-25, 13-25. Despite the early deficits, the opening game provided the team with an opportunity to gain experience and figure out ways they need to improve as they have a few days of practice before their next match.
From the opening serve, Franklin Road Academy established its lead with a few aces and kills. The Lady Broncos fell in straight sets, 5-25, 13-25, to Franklin Road Academy Monday night. In the first set, the Lady Broncos struggled to find an offensive rhythm to get points on the board consecutively. Through the struggles, the team found it within themselves to encourage one another.
“They stayed in the game. They were focused,” coach Kenny Chisam said.
Boyd Christian began finding opportunities in the second set to get more points on the board and showed improvement as the set progressed.
Chisam saw positives in his team’s performance and effort throughout the match, particularly in the way the team continued to compete despite the early deficit.
“We actually tried. Actually, I thought we looked better than we did at the high school,” Chisam said.
Chisam is excited to see the growth of his team as he believes the Lady Broncos are headed in the right direction.
Looking forward to the next game, the next few practices will provide opportunities for the team to regroup and fine-tune its play.
“We will be working on the things we should be doing, like calling the ball, just the basics. I mean, we weren't doing the basics tonight,” Chisam said.
Those fundamentals will be a major focus for the Lady Broncos as they prepare for their next opportunity on the court.
The Lady Broncos will not have to wait long to try to recover from the loss as they return to the court Thursday at 5 p.m.
