D3 Pioneers run by Rockvale
The D-3 Pioneers pose after another big win last weekend over Rockvale. The team was also presented a Nursery Bowl trophy for its win earlier this month in a jamboree game.
The future continues to look bright for Warren County football.
The youth Pioneers were back under the lights at Nunley Stadium against Rockvale, and the oldest team - Division 3 - continued to provide plenty of reasons to be excited. Warren County’s D3 Pioneers picked up a 38-22 victory behind another explosive performance from Gabriel “Hot Rod” Rodriguez, then capped the night by finally getting its hands on some hardware earned earlier this month.
Rodriguez scored three touchdowns while accounting for more than 150 yards, including a 90-yard trip to the end zone. He also hauled in a highlight-reel catch in mid-air on a pass from Brantley Martin, helping D3 pull away for its second straight victory.
Rodriguez's performance earned him D3 Offensive Player of the Week honors. Braylen Locke was named the Defensive Player of the Week after providing strong coverage and coming up with a key fumble recovery.
The celebration continued after the final whistle when Warren County received the trophy it earned by defeating Bledsoe County during the Nursery Bowl scrimmage Aug. 1. The presentation had been delayed until the Pioneers returned home, allowing the D3 players to celebrate the honor together following another victory.
AJ Hall and Martin were also recognized for their hard work and dedication during the Nursery Bowl.
While D3 supplied the victory Monday, there were individual bright spots throughout the Warren County program.
Rockvale defeated D1 32-6, but TJ Brakeall earned Offensive Player of the Week honors following a strong performance on the ground. Avery Solomon was the D1 Defensive Player of the Week after recording six solo tackles.
Rockvale also topped D2 38-8. Jax Hutchings was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week after producing several strong runs, while Brecken Thomas earned defensive honors for his work making solo tackles. Thomas had a little extra reason to remember the night, turning in his performance on his birthday.
Warren County Youth Football gets back to work this Saturday, Sept. 5 with games in Fayetteville. Kickoffs are set for 10 am (D1), 11:30 am (D2) and 1 pm for the D3 Pioneers as they look to start 3-0.
