Centertown Boys stay unbeaten in boys league

Centertown Warriors 42

Boyd Broncos 4

The Centertown Warriors were able to defend their home court and keep pressure on the Broncos from the opening tip, earning a 42-4 victory.

The Warriors established control early with their defensive pressure, making it difficult for the Broncos to get comfortable. Centertown consistently pressured the ball, working to disrupt Boyd’s possessions, forcing the Broncos to work for every opportunity to advance the ball up the floor.

The pressure carried over throughout the game as Centertown refused to let up. The Warriors continued to play with energy and intensity even when the lead got big.

The energy and constant pressure created opportunities for Centertown offensively. The Warriors were able to turn their defensive stops into scoring opportunities and quickly build their lead throughout the game.

Boyd continued to battle and play with a lot of heart despite finding themselves down early in the game. The Broncos worked to break through Centertown’s defense, moving the ball and looking for opportunities to get on the scoreboard. Even as the deficit grew, the Broncos hustle showed to the final buzzer.

By the final buzzer, the Centertown Warriors had secured the 42-4 victory over the Boyd Broncos. The Warriors put together an impressive and strong defensive performance throughout all four quarters.

Greyson Eubanks had a strong performance for the Warriors finishing the night with 15 points. Colt Bratcher contributed 7 points and Remington Adcock finished with 6 points.

Hickory Creek Hawks 34
Morrison Eagles 19

Hickory Creek decided to incorporate the deep ball into its offense Monday night and the result was another win for the Hawks.

Noah Mallett sank a pair of triples on his way to a double-digit outing, while Caleb Lippe also connected from distance as Hickory Creek pulled away in the second half to beat Morrison 34-19 on the road.

There wasn’t much separating the teams early. Morrison matched Hickory Creek shot for shot in the first half and the teams went to the locker room tied 11-11.

Then the Hawks caught fire.

Mallett opened the third quarter with a triple, then got loose for a layup as Hickory Creek started to create some separation. Po Haywood and Beckett Butler also worked their way into the paint for buckets as the Hawks combined better shooting with tenacious defense to take control.

Caleb Lippe hit big shots for Hickory Creek Monday night.

Lippe, who had delighted the visiting fans with a three-point play in the second quarter, helped shut the door on any Morrison comeback. With Hickory Creek already starting to find some breathing room, the young guard buried a 3-pointer as part of an eight-point night.

Mallett led the Hawks with 10 points, followed by Lippe with eight, Haywood with six and Butler with five. Jacobi Caldwell and Asher Mathis scored two apiece, while Tucker Bowling added one.

Trey Hawkins led Morrison with seven points, while Luke Harris scored all six of his points in the first half to help the Eagles stay even early. Sawyer McCormick added four and Greyson Hawkins scored two.

Bracton Womack has West off to a sizzling 2-0 start.

West Wizards 41
Eastside Bulldogs 0

If West’s introduction to the league wasn’t impressive enough last Thursday, the encore will surely draw some attention.

The Wizards went on the road Monday and completely shut down Eastside, blanking the Bulldogs 41-0 to remain perfect through their first two games.

West didn’t have to keep its patented full-court pressure on for long to build a huge advantage. The Wizards raced ahead 15-0 before the first break and continued pulling away from there.

Cam Chadwell started his 13-point performance by drilling a triple, continuing his strong start after leading West in its debut. Princeton Scott, who is quickly evolving into an offensive weapon while also serving as a stopper on the West defense, scored five quick points in the opening quarter on his way to nine.

Byron Keyes is also emerging as one of the league’s premier posts. Keyes worked his way to seven points, almost all of them coming in a first half where the Wizards built a 22-0 advantage.

With the game under control, coach Bracton Womack started mixing in his depth in the second half and some of West’s youngsters looked ready for the call.

Karsen Jones poured in all six of his points after halftime, while Bruno Barrera capped the impressive night with a late 3-pointer. DJ Ramirez added two points and Maliek Ellis finished with one.

Two games into its season, West has made quite an introduction. The Wizards followed a 27-13 victory over Hickory Creek by pitching a shutout on the road Monday.

Dibrell Wildcats 26
Bobby Ray Stars 12

Dibrell’s opening-night loss is starting to look more and more like a distant memory.

The Wildcats have responded with back-to-back convincing victories, going on the road Monday and building a commanding first-half advantage before beating Bobby Ray 26-12.

Dibrell wasted little time taking control. The Wildcats built an 18-4 lead by halftime and never looked back, continuing the strong response they started with last Thursday’s 48-10 victory over Boyd.

Jeb Culwell once again led the way. One of the league’s established scorers, Culwell finished with a game-high 10 points. Jean Garcia added eight and River Rice scored six, giving Dibrell three players with at least six points. Bentley Harper rounded out the scoring with two.

Bobby Ray continues to search for its first victory, but Jayden Terry once again provided offense for the Stars. Terry led his team with five points, while Matteo Fajardo added four. Alton Ray scored two and River Green finished with one.

After dropping a 34-22 decision to unbeaten Centertown on opening night, Dibrell has quickly changed the direction of its season. The Wildcats have won two straight and scored 74 points in the process, putting themselves right back into the early-season mix.
