Photo contest
The Warren County Way hosted its first Fourth of July Photo Competition over the weekend.
“As I’m looking through entries Monday morning, my first thought was regarding the number of entries received,” said News Editor Lisa Hobbs. “It was a bit overwhelming. I appreciate all who took time to send in a photo.”
Up for grabs were six Gilley Pool passes for first place; those generously donated by McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department. A second place will receive four pool passes and a third place will receive two, from Warren County Way, your source for local news.
“Thought number two was a question: why do I get myself into situations like these,” said Hobbs. “I’ve agreed to judge several competitions over the years and each time, it was painstaking. Among those were: kite competition, iced tea competition, baking competition, barbecue competition, chili competition, and a Halloween carving competition. With each one, I always say that I’ll never do it again. Not sure, but I think I’m lying to myself.”
Among the wide array of photos submitted for over the weekend were children, house decorations, fireworks displays, patriotic pooches, entries in the Yankee Doodle Parade, and a unique one that had three vehicles – red, white and blue – parked in the driveway. I found that interesting.”
“After narrowing the entries down to 10, I garnered assistance from my family and friends in selecting the winners. I consider things like this as a blessing, and sometimes a curse, to know me. At some point, I will ask for help.”
Third place will be announced Tuesday morning. Second place, Wednesday. First place, Thursday.
Spoiler: the winners were family, friends and patriotism.
“I do want to include an honorable mention, which I have used with this article,” said Hobbs. “Waggin Tails Ranch, owned by Linsey Youngblood and Vanessa Cornelius, submitted this adorable pooch. While this recognition doesn’t come with a prize, it does come with my admiration. I couldn’t get my dog to wear a Santa hat, much less glasses and poise for me. A job well done, Linsey and Vanessa.”
