A man was handed four years’ probation and 51 days in jail by Judge Matthew Cowans in Warren County General Sessions Court on Tuesday.

Ryan Michael Osborne entered a Best Interest Plea on charges of domestic assault, child abuse/neglect/endangerment, and vandalism. Judge Cowans handed him three consecutive sentences: 11 months, 29 days probation and 48 hours to serve for domestic assault, 11-29 probation and 48 hours to serve for child abuse/neglect/endangerment, and 11-29 probation and 48 hours to serve for vandalism.

For 10 counts of violation of conditional release, Osborne was handed 10 concurrent sentences of 11-29 probation and 45 days to serve. However, that time will run consecutive to the three sentences above.

Osborne was ordered to surrender all firearms and stay away from the victim. Financial restitution in association to the vandalism charge is yet to be determined. He must also complete the Caring Dads Program and undergo an alcohol and drug assessment, among other requirements.

A best interest plea, also known as an Alford plea, is a legal option where a defendant pleads guilty without admitting to the crime. While maintaining their innocence, the defendant recongizes that the prosecution has sufficient evidence to likely secure a conviction.
