Anderson won’t seek re-election in Morrison

The town of Morrison will be searching for a new leader in November as Mayor Sue Anderson has revealed she won’t seek re-election.

Anderson has been Morrison’s mayor for 16 years and served as an alderman for eight years before that.

“Morrison has been a blessing to me, and I hope I’ve been a blessing to Morrison,” said Anderson.

During her 24 years on the Morrison Board of Mayor and Aldermen, she’s been involved in many projects that have made a positive impact.

Those include building a new library and constructing a new fire-ambulance station on the four-lane. She also spearheaded a complete renovation of Town Hall.

“Those were some big projects, but it wasn’t just me,” said Anderson. “It took a team effort.”

Anderson, 80, still plans to remain active with Morrison Ruritan.

“Ruritan keeps me hopping,” she said. “I’m not going to sit down. I’m getting around slower, but I’m still able to go and do.”

Anderson had a distinguished 47-year career at Oster, starting with that company when she graduated high school and retiring in 2011.

Who might follow in her footsteps as mayor?

“I haven’t heard about anyone who is interested in running, but I will help them any way I can,” said Anderson.
