National Public Lands Day Hike at Rock Island State Park begins at 10 a.m. Meet at the Tennis Court parking area across from the campgrounds for a 1.95-mile hike touring the upland, predominantly oak-forest habitat at the park. This hike will take roughly two hours, has some hills and uneven footing so be sure to bring sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing, and water. Register for the hike on the park’s website.
Cedarwood Pumpkin Patch Opening Day. They will be open until Oct. 31. Opening day hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick your pumpkin, make your way through mazes, visit petting zoos, jump on the jump pads, enjoy live music and bonfires by the pond (an additional cost and includes hotdogs, marshmallows, chips, drink), slid down the new 100foot super slide, and much, much more. General admission is $15 for ages 3 and up. Babies 2 and under are free.
Warren Arts presents Potatoes at Park Theater Sept. 25, 26 and 27. In 1998, in a small town, mysterious fumes shut down the local high school. The EPA was called in and ultimately declared it a case of mass hysteria – a figment of the imagination that caused over 100 students and teachers to experience real symptoms. Potatoes tells the probably, possibly, maybe “true story” of what really happened. Tickets on sale now.

Cedar Grove Fire Department’s Haunted Trail begins at dark and goes until 11 p.m. New this year will be a corn maze. Admission is $15 per person, while children ages 5 and under are free. No flashlights or cell phone usage is allowed on the trail. Each paid ticket gets one glow stick. Additional ones cost $1. This event is a fundraiser for the department. Haunts continue every Friday and Saturday in October, with the final haunt on Nov. 1. Directions: take Sparta Highway, turn right at The Landing (formerly Gribble’s Landing) and follow the signs. The 22nd annual Heritage Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6774 Rocky River Rd in Rock Island. The free family event will feature live music, a cruise-in, wagon and stagecoach rides, blacksmithing, woodcarving, moonshine still and hit-and-miss engine demonstrations, fishing stories, a tribute to veterans and more. This event is about bringing the community together to celebrate recovery, reduce stigma, connect people with resources, and show that hope and healing is possible. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will hold the second annual Tennessee Biodiversity Summit. This year’s theme is Moving the Needle: Wins in Conservation and includes a dynamic lineup of speakers and topics. This one-day event is inclusive. Anyone with an interest in the outdoors is invited to attend, including hunters, anglers, birdwatchers, paddle-craft enthusiasts, and backyard gardeners. Additionally, 21 educational booths from top agencies across the state including The Nature Conservancy, State Parks, and more, will be on hand to answer questions and direct attendees towards actionable steps to benefit wildlife.
