School Supply giveaway coming Saturday at Nelo’s

One of Warren County's best-known soccer officials is hoping to make a difference off the field this weekend.

August Palombo, a Warren County High School graduate, longtime teacher, former Pioneer soccer coach and veteran referee, is part of a group of local officials hosting a school supply giveaway Saturday at Nelo's Mexican Restaurant.

The giveaway will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while supplies last and will include backpacks filled with items like pencils, notebooks, folders and other classroom essentials to help students get ready for the new school year.

Palombo had a little fun promoting the event on Facebook, writing: "We always enjoy giving back to our community. This can also serve as your reminder that when you're yelling at us over what you think was the wrong call (it probably wasn't) that we don't hold it against you or your kids! We hope to see you Saturday!"

It's a lighthearted reminder that the people making calls on the field are also members of the community, looking for ways to give back when the final whistle blows.

Families needing school supplies are encouraged to stop by Saturday, July 25, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Nelo's Mexican Restaurant. Supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while they last.

This is the latest of line of giveaways locally in Warren County. Last weekend, hundreds of local kids received supplies at Westwood Church of Christ and Bernard Gym as part of local back-to-school events. If you want to publicize your back-to-school event, email wcsportsauthority@gmail.com.
