Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School’s Carol Pelham has been named Classified Employee of the Month, while Eastside Elementary School’s Lisa Rowland was named Certified Employee of the Month.

Principal Sadie Newby nominated Pelham and provided the following statement, which was read by Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows.

“Carol Pelham is one of those special people who quietly makes our school a better place simply by being here. As our attendance clerk, she keeps up with all things attendance related and is always looking for ways to encourage and celebrate students for coming to school each day.

“But Carol’s impact reaches far beyond her job description. She is often the first face our visitors see when they walk through our doors and the first face our staff sees when they enter the office. She represents Bobby Ray with genuine warmth, kindness and a servant’s heart. Whether she’s helping a parent on the phone, supporting a staff member, comforting a child, or walking a student to class, Carol makes people feel cared for.

“One of my favorite things about Carol is how she turns even a quick trip to the office into an opportunity to connect with a child. When students bring something to the office, she gives them a math problem to solve and celebrates their success with a few Skittles. It’s a small gesture but it perfectly captures who Carol is, someone who finds little ways every day to make children feel seen, valued and special.

“Carol is truly a blessing to Bobby Ray, and our school simply would not be the same without her.”

Rowland was nominated by Lindsey Dixson.

“Lisa Rowland is incredibly deserving of Employee of the Month recognition. As an RTI math teacher, Lisa brings years of experience, dedication and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. She goes above and beyond to make sure that students receive the support and encouragement that they need, both academically and personally.

“Mrs. Rowland’s commitment extends far beyond her classroom. She truly loves her school, the community she serves and has been involved in many different aspects of school life throughout the years. From supporting clubs to activities and being involved with various sports and school events, Mrs. Rowland consistently gives her time and energy to make her school a better place. Her willingness to step in, help wherever needed, and invest in her students and fellow staff members make her an invaluable part of the school community.

“Mrs. Rowland leads by example through her worth ethic, passion, experience and dedication. She’s not only an outstanding educator, she is also someone who genuinely cares about her students and her community. Her years of service and continued involvement make her an excellent choice for Employee of the Month and what the Employee of the Month should represent.”

Rowland could not attend the meeting.
