Memorial bridge under consideration

The Warren County Commission to consider naming a bridge after Grover and Mary Parker.

“We’ve received a bridge name request on Clearmont Road,” stated Commissioner Gary Prater during a Highway and Bridge Committee meeting. “I find this to be very deserving. I’ve known that whole family my entire life.”

The bridge is located off Ivy Bluff Trail. It is almost to the Cannon County line in Warren County.

Grover passed away in August of 2022. He worked as a logger and farmer growing tobacco, pepper, hogs and cattle. He also worked as a custodian at Woodbury Grammar School and Centertown Elementary. Mary passed away in February of 2022. She worked at the Short Mountain School cafeteria, Woodbury Shirt Factory and Stones River Hospital cafeteria.

The couple gave the land on which the bridge was built, and the family would like to name it “Grover and Mary Memorial Bridge.”

Prater stated that their son, Dale, is the new president of the Tennessee Cattleman’s Association.

Committee members unanimously approved the request. The final decision will be that of the Warren County Commission.
