Atnip still snapping pictures

He’s come into focus as one of the best-known photographers in Warren County.

Many folks know Bruce Atnip as the friendly face at the Walmart Photo Center – where he’s been a mainstay for an amazing 30 years.

Bruce has also taught photography classes, and once had his own photo studio on Main Street.

“I find it enjoyable because, for that moment, it’s just you and what’s through that viewfinder,” said Bruce, 63. “It’s a great way to unwind after a rough day at work, to shoot the sunset or walk the greenway and photograph turtles and squirrels.”

Bruce always has a special project up his sleeve, from setting up exhibits at the Heritage Alliance Museum in downtown McMinnville, to successfully lobbying for Dottie West to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He produced a holiday show at Park Theater in December that benefited the WCMS Fuel Bag Program, which sends food home to students in need on weekends. The Crooners Club made a $2,000 donation to WCMS because of that concert.

“I wanted to do whatever I could to help feed these kids,” said Bruce. “I know the FUEL bags mean a lot to the kids who receive them.”

Bruce is a third-generation musician who is skilled on mountain dulcimer. He enjoys performing as a hobby in addition to his photography.
