AG News & Notes - Sept. 8

Cattleman’s Field Day

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Warren County Cattlemen’s Association will host its first Field Day at the Beef and Dairy Barn at the Warren County Fairgrounds.

The event will feature a trade show with several local vendors and educational sessions, including:

• Pasture Weed Control with Maddie Wheeler, Corteva
• New World Screwworm and TAEP Update with Dr. Jill Johnson and Jacob Tipton
• A presentation from the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association

The Board of Directors and I have been blown away by the turnout at our first two meetings and hope this event will be even better attended. As always, please let us know if we can answer any questions.

Master Beef Class Planned

Check your certificates. If yours is dated January 1, 2023, or later, it is time to renew.

This year, we are incorporating our Field Day along with two additional sessions on September 29 and October 1. Both sessions will be held in the Early Voting Room at the Warren County Administrative Building, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Speakers for these sessions include:

• Jared Franklin, discussing reproduction
• Dr. Andrew Griffith, providing a market update and discussing the impact of recent processing facility closures on cattle markets

The cost of the class is $125.00 and includes all materials. To register, please visit the Extension Office or use the QR code below.

DON’T FORGET: TAEP SIGN-UP DATES ARE COMING UP

The upcoming TAEP sign-up period will be October 1 through October 7. As was the case last year, applications will be accepted online only, and it is not necessary to have an online account to apply.

New to the program this year is livestock fencing. Eligible items will include permanent perimeter fencing and permanent cross-fencing. Reimbursement will be based on $2.00 per linear foot.

The minimum acreage requirement for Hay Storage has been lowered from 100 acres to 50 acres, and side sheds have returned to the program. Automatic waterers and hay rings will also be eligible this year.
