A final farewell

Residents have a few hours today to say goodbye to Warren County Road Superintendent Levie Glenn.

A retirement reception kicked off at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31. Genn will be available until 6 p.m. He urges people to stop by the Highway Department and enjoy the final hurrah, complete with refreshments.

“I’m going to miss the employees and a lot of citizens of Warren County,” said Glenn. “It has been like a family. You get attached to them. There are a lot of good people in Warren County. I’ve received a lot of support. It was hard to make this decision, but I want to spend more time with my family. I felt it was the right time to do it. I had a good staff. We always had a good audit report. We never asked for additional money. We stayed within our budget. We built a good fund balance. Of course, some years were better than others. It depends on the weather. The weather controls a lot. We are on call all year long 24 hours a day.”

Taking over on Tuesday, Sept. 1, will be Josh Roberts, who is the former Warren County Sanitation Department director.

“I’ll be here in the morning to introduce Josh to the team and pass the torch, as they say,” said Glenn.

Also retiring are Leta Glenn and Angie Campbell, each with 32 years. Combined with Levie’s 32 years, the department is losing 96 years of administrative experience.

“These guys have been like family to us,” said Leta, of the employees. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but we felt it was time. I’d like to just relax for a while.”

Campbell says she’s not entirely ready to retire. She plans to spend three or four months doing things she didn’t have the time to do while working 40 hours a week for the last 32 years. Then, go job hunting.

“I’m still young,” she said. “I can’t see me not working. I would like to do something different. Something challenging. I haven’t gotten that part quite figured out just yet.”
